Hot off of the success of his Oscar-nominated film, Django Unchained, acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino has released the first trailer for his upcoming film, a dramatization of Mahatma Ghandhi’s 30-year struggle for Indian independence.
If the 3-minute theatrical preview is any indication, “Ghandi: Reloaded” will tell the story of the Father of India in a whole new light: dark, raw, and bloody. The title role of Ghandi is brought to life by a stunning performance from Samuel L. Jackson, who gained 30 pounds of muscle and underwent an extensive 3-week bootcamp to prepare for his role. Jackson’s commitment to portraying the father of peaceful protest is particularly evident as Ghandi pulls a man’s stomach from his body and yells “Hunger STRIKE.”
The trailer features many similarly powerful scenes, such as a climactic snipe-out with Winston Churchill and chase sequences in Ghandi’s apache helicopter. The “eye for an eye” interrogation scene is also not to be missed.
“Ghandi: Reloaded” is one of many Tarantino films based around a dramatized and violent retelling of historical events, such as “Django Unchained,” “Inglorious Basterds,”and “Betsy Ross & The American Frag.”
